Australia's only scooter manufacturer Vmoto Ltd has begun constructing a scooter assembly plant in Nanjing, China and is targeting annual revenues of more than $100 million by 2011.
In an announcement on Monday, Vmoto said the 10,000 square metre plant was expected to be operational by mid year.
"The Stage 1 layout will deliver ... an initial output of 15,000 scooters and 20,000 engines," the Perth-headquartered company said in the statement.
Pre - orders account for 15,000 scooters to be produced during the plant's start-up period.
Stages two and three are due to commence later this year.
In total, the plant will ultimately have capacity for 200,000 scooter and engine units per annum.
Managing director Patrick Davin said full production should be achieved by the end of 2010.
