50cc Rider Training

While you can ride your 50cc on a car license in Queensland, skills that you learn with a bit of training, may just save your life.

Jason Tubnor

With Queenslanders allowed to ride 50cc scooters on a car license, lots of people manage to survive on the road without any formal training, thanks to an automatic transmission and a brake configuration similar to a push bike.  Though many people can tell of horror stories and near misses that might not have been as 'near' if they had some basic road craft skills.

ScooterHQ, in conjunction with their training partners, Ridabike, have developed a "Quick" course to give 50cc riders some basic knowledge on riding.  The course focuses on scooter control, braking, cornering and a bit of road craft.

Brendon from ScooterHQ says, "Riders who complete this basic course are amazed at the improvement to their control of the scooter & confidence it provides on the road."

"To watch the riders after completion is very rewarding as they now have an understanding of the physics behind riding, the most common comment from riders is that they had no idea they could brake like that."

When you are equipped with these skills and an understanding of the basics, you can continue learning further by honing these skills for the rest of your riding life. This gives you a better chance of survival in real world situations.

Training sessions are conducted most Saturdays from 12:30pm with a maximum of 4 people per group.  Sessions last for two hours and costs $100.  The trainer is Dave Stone and is a well respected riding coach who has trained some of the biggest names in Australian Motorcycling.  He is very scooter focused with his daughter also riding scooters.

Bookings are essential, so give ScooterHQ a call for further information and to reserve your place.  Who knows, training like this might just save your life!
