Scooter News Yamaha BWS Fi 125 The new Taiwanese manufactured BWS (a.k.a. BeeWee) has rolled off the production line and is now available in some countries across South East Asia.
Jason Tubnor The Yamaha BW has been a very popular scooter because of its durable and rugged nature. With the choice of either a 50cc (overseas) or 100cc 2-stroke engine along with their quirky looks have given them a reputation of being solid little performer with a difference. Yamaha were able to strike a cord with customers that wanted something different by keeping the plastic body work to a minimum, giving it somewhat a military look and feel.
At the end of 2007, Yamaha released a prototype of an upgraded BW. It does away with the 2-stroke engine and has replaced with a Euro 3 compliant 4-stoke EFI engine, similar to that used in the 2008 Yamaha Cygnus 125.
Yamaha still kept the new models looks in-line with its predecessor as it was a winning formula that one the hearts of so many loyal customers.
The new scooter sees some new enhancing features such as double round tail lights, 12 inch off-road styled tyres, tamper proof ignition lock and vertically mounted headlights. The fuel filler is now located at the tip of the saddle. Under seat storage can house a small full face helmet.
All up, the new BW will be more visually appealing to those with conservative tastes, yet, keeps its roots for its loyal fan base. At $3700, it is not the cheapest 125cc on the scooter market, but for one that would be the most efficient and equipped with fuel injection, would make it very attractive.
