Bug Jive # 1 scooter in Australia

Bug Scooters now boasts the number one selling scooter in Australia, according to official industry figures.

-

The Bug Jive headed the scooter sales results recently released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries for the first quarter of 2006.

With a recommended retail price of $1999 plus on-road-costs, the 50cc Bug Jive was also the top selling road-going motorcycle model to March, 2006, ahead of the popular 1000cc Yamaha R1 sports bike.

The scooter market, which enjoyed 30 percent growth in 2005, grew a massive 47.3 percent in the March quarter as spiraling fuel prices force many people to re-consider their transport options.

"To have the top-selling model in the strongest ever scooter market in Australia is a great achievement, an achievement I must thank our Bug dealers for," said Peter Lynch, managing director, Bug Scooters.

Bug Scooters are available through 55 dealers around Australia.

"The scooter market is becoming increasingly competitive, and our dealers have done an excellent job in making the Bug Jive the number one scooter in the land."

The Bug range of scooters features nine models ranging from 50cc through to 250cc.

Mr Lynch said that he will be launching three new Bug Scooter models in 2006.

Bug Scooters' sales revenues have grown 100 percent per annum in the last three years, and its staff numbers have jumped from 2 to 9 in the last 18 months.

"We acknowledge that our rapid growth can only broaden Bug's name for reliability and affordability, therefore we have provided the necessary resources and staffing levels to maintain our very high customer satisfaction levels."

Bug Scooters' unit sales to March, 2006 were up 140 percent on the first quarter of 2005, but has set itself more significant long-term goals.

"We believe that expanding our range will help us achieve our market share objectives. The market continues to attract new and different kinds of buyers, so a larger range of Bug Scooters will cater to the growing needs of the market." said Mr Lynch.

Mr Lynch added that understanding and adapting to the scooter market has been vital in meeting customer expectations.

"There is no question that the rising cost of fuel is a key driver of the current demand, but we believe that re-positioning of the key $1999 price point in 2004 with the addition of new players in the scooter market is what originally kick-started this growth.

"By identifying these developments, Bug Scooters has been able to adapt its pricing strategy competitively to what is a very exciting and dynamic market."
