Piaggio Powers On

Piaggio brands lead Aussie Scooter Market

Piaggio Australia

According to recently released FCAI industry data (September 2008 YTD), scooter sales continue to soar in Australia. The Italian scooter giant, Piaggio, continues to be the number one choice for scooters in Australia with almost 23% share of the market with the three distinctive Piaggio, Vespa and Gilera brands.

Piaggio has long been a benefactor of the renewed enthusiasm for scooters in the Australian market. Petrol prices are set to soar again due to a plummeting Aussies dollar, but so too will imported goods and that includes scooters and this means now is a great time to get on a Piaggio scooter before exchange rates force price increases.

The Piaggio family includes the contemporary Piaggio brand with its budget models and all-weather, all-distance maxi models. The Gilera brand is Piaggio's sport brand and includes the amazing the Fuoco 500 which looks like a 3-wheeled urban assault vehicle. Vespa is the Piaggio brand that is literally more famous than it's own parent and is an international style icon.

The Vespa range follows strong traditional values with a steel monocoque chassis and unmistakeable Italian style.

"Each one of our Piaggio brands is up on the same time as last year for their own reasons" said Simon Gloyne, Piaggio Brand Manager. "Vespa continues to be the choice for the discerning owner who wants more than simply transport and the Gilera Fuoco 500 3-wheeler has been a sell-out success. Piaggio on the other hand has experienced the biggest increase of 135% on same time last year and this is due to the depth of range we are offering from entry level to maxi's and the MP3 250 and 400 3-wheelers".

This is all great news for Piaggio and on the eve of yet another new model release. The Vespa GTS 300 Super will go on sale during the third week of October at an RRP of $8990 not including on-road costs. This is largest ever engine in a Vespa and is set to attract a lot of new owners as well as existing owners getting ready to step up to a larger Vespa.
