Now this is a sweet little scoot. Aprilia are well known for building stylish and generally more expensive scooters, but the new Sport City One has kept the style, but given us an entry level price tag.
My first impression was that the Italians had done a good job of designing a small, practical, lightweight scooter that retained the styling and pedigree of the Sporty City range. Of course you could go out and buy the wonderful new Sport City 300ie for a cool $7990 plus on roads, if you simply have to have the best, but if you’re in the market for cheap, reliable transport with Italian branding and sporty good looks, well, the Sport City One might just be the scoot for you.
I really like the larger 14 inch wheels in particular. They give the rider a sure footed feel and handle Sydneys occasional potholes very well. The rear suspension is adjustable and can be set up to suit people who are either bigger or pillion regularly too. The flat floor gives plenty of room in the cockpit and handles my 185cm easily. The lowish seat height also makes this scoot good for smaller or learner riders.
Instrumentation is functional and modern, but Aprilia could have included a clock so that I don’t get caught in school zone speed cameras quite so easily. I love the mirrors and headlight set up. Storage is adequate, but I suppose I always would like more.
The under seat storage is in keeping with a scoot of this size and fits many open face helmets, and the shopping bag hook is strong and well positioned.
Overall finish of the bike was excellent, especially when compared to the dollars you are spending. Aprilia are very plain about the fact that they are positioning this scoot to get riders onto an Aprilia machine at an entry level price.
The idea being that you will have a great time on your Sport City One 125, and one day you’ll upgrade to the 300ie. I think it just might work.

The Sportcity One 125 is a return to the fun sporty scooter. Many budget 125 offerings are commuters that will reliably & economically commute you from A to B, which is what scooters are about. The Sportcity One does all that but does it in a manner that puts a smile on your face. The morning commute becomes a morning ride, the afternoon commute becomes an afternoon ride.
Long service intervals, easy to ride, good engine & it doesn’t mind a corner or two. Makes a great first scooter that becomes more enjoyable to ride as the riders skills improve. For those who have been riding for a few years or motorcyclists who have seen the light this is a must look at scooter,, it’s also a modifiers dream with a plethora of aftermarket parts available.
Dislikes – No clock.

The busy 125cc scooter market place has been blown wide open with the arrival of this little beauty from the Aparilia factory. The Sportcity One 125 is a dynamic modern day styled scooter packed with great road handling capabilities. For me it’s the size of the thing that counts on the road; it’s fairly narrow and very aerodynamic making for extremely manoeuvrable around town riding. It has a solid feel when you ride it, too, the wheels delivering precise feedback with minimal vibration, the suspension combining well with the generous 14 inch wheel size.
The ride position is good, prompting an upright slightly sporty lean ,the seat softer than most for the longer rides. Road manners, especially under power, are smooth and predictable; the scooter tracks its lines well mainly because it’s another larger wheel scooter, something Apariila seem to be honing in on at the moment. Under seat storage is limited but the helmet bay is slightly deeper than most so some open face style helmets will fit under here. The 2 valve single cylinder engine is whisper quiet and super fuel efficient; it also produces a solid amount of power when needed to get you past that traffic black spot. I noticed the engine pulsed smoothly too, the throttle response earnest and lively.
It’s a looker; stealthy lines, razor sharp looking twin halogen headlights, and a stunning rear light cluster, both moulded neatly within the scooters body shape. There are no cheap components here flapping in the wind, the panel fit is precise and uncluttered; it’s a very clean looking scooter style-wise. The front indicators are positioned well, they are up high and close to the top of the front of the scooter, great if you are behind larger vehicles that would eclipse your intentions. It has a flat floor with a shopping hook, so grocery essentials can travel with you, the foot area is slightly small though, I found I was changing position a fair bit, though I am over 6 foot.
When parking the Sportcity a moulded hand rail proves to be very comfortable at the rear of the scooter, making centre stand flick outs a breeze. It’s very easy to park. Silver, black and yellow are the colour options here, personally the yellow looks very flash, combined with the black upholstery and trim. If you are looking for a scooter which is longing for the urban daily commute, which has good feedback on the road, great handling and up to the minute styling, this scooter would have to pop up on your radar. Less is more here, the component is solid, the dash layout simple and unfussed, storage can be found on other bigger wheel based scooters but this is not the Sportcity’s brief. It will clean up city traffic, and provide a genuine riding experience along the way; you will arrive at work on time and re energised! Catch you on the road!
