Scooter News Safe Routes Rally Time On Sunday October 10, it is the 5th Annual VACC ‘Safe Routes’ Scooter Rally.
VACC From Lambrettas to Lattes and Piaggio's to Pizzas: it’s the 2010 VACC ‘Safe Routes’ Scooter Rally
Hundreds of riders are expected to take part in the event which highlights the economic, cost-efficient, social and environmental benefits of scooters. VACC will again call on the Victorian Government, and transport planners, to show more consideration to scooter owners.
“VACC’s Scooter Rally is the only one of its kind in Australia. Groups use this event to be seen and be counted. VACC promotes the introduction of ‘safe routes’ and other road traffic measures which, in our opinion, would encourage more people to ride scooters, especially commuters. We have also called for St Kilda Road, in Melbourne, to become a designated scooter ‘safe route’ over a six month trial period,” VACC Executive Director, David Purchase, said.
However, there is also a lighter side to the Scooter Rally. It is a chance for owners to socialise with each other and to show off their rides to the public. On show will be Lambrettas, Vespas and Piaggio's, many with additional accessories such as lights and mirrors. Riders will congregate at Luna Park, before heading off to Argyle Square in Lygon Street where there will be music and entertainment, in association with local traders.
“It will be spectacular to see all the Vespas and scooters travelling through Lygon Street and ending up in Piazza Italia. We welcome everyone to experience the Italian atmosphere and to enjoy the festivities. We thank VACC for organising this annual event," Carlton Business Association Precinct Inc, President, Gino Francese, said.
