Kymco Australia cemented its place in the Australian motorcycle market
during 2010, going from strength to strength to become the ninth largest
motorcycle brand in the country and one of the fastest growing brands
in the land .
Despite the Australian motorcycle market contracting by 8.9 percent
against the same period in 2009, Kymco again bucked the trend to
increase total sales volume by a whopping 81.6 percent according to data
recently released by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries
(FCAI).
FCAI results show that Kymco, while still in its early stages in
Australia, already owns an impressive 2.2 percent of the entire national
motorcycle market and has captured 6.6 percent of the market in the
product categories in which it actively participates.
“2010 was a year of incredible growth and excitement for the Kymco
brand,” said National Sales & Marketing Manager, Alan Collins. “We
began 2010 with high expectations and we are delighted that those
expectations – along with the expectations of our dealers and customers –
have not only been met, but vastly exceeded.”
“Obviously 81.6 percent year-on-year growth is difficult to sustain in
the long term, but with the increased recognition and awareness of Kymco
as a high-quality and service driven brand and the introduction of a
swag of new products, we expect our steep growth trend to continue
throughout 2011
and beyond.”
“There is a reason why Kymco is one of the leading scooter, motorcycle
and ATV manufacturers in the world and more and more people in Australia
are coming to understand that. We are incredibly proud to represent the
Kymco creed of quality, reliability, service and value-for-money in
Australia & New Zealand.
In mid-2010, Kymco ATVs celebrated their first year anniversary in the
Australian market with some outstanding results. Results released by
industry data specialists ERG International shows Kymco achieved a
national ATV market share of 3.4 percent in 2010. This result is
predicated by an outstanding result in Queensland – Australia’s biggest
ATV market – where Kymco wrapped up the year with 4.3 percent share of
the market for 2010.
The Victorian ATV results are also a fantastic story with Kymco grabbing
5.1 percent share in 2010, while ACT is just as impressive with 7
percent of the ACT market share for ATVs.
Kymco’s philosophy for ATVs is ‘Simplicity in Design - with the right
features.’ This means easier maintenance, greater reliability and lower
costs and this is why so many Australian farmers are turning to Kymco to
get the job done.
Scooters continue to fare well in the Australian market. Nationwide,
Kymco holds an impressive and growing 12.3% market share for the year
2010, over two full percentage points higher than 2009. While the
scooter market has faced some challenges, Kymco has held its own as one
of the few scooter manufacturers to post growth over the same period
last year with 22.2 percent sales growth.
Victorian and Queensland markets have flourished with Kymco holding 15.1
percent market share in Queensland and 12.5 percent in Victoria. In the
ACT Kymco has dominated, holding 28.5 percent market share for
scooters.
“At Kymco we pride ourselves on the fact that we are selling quality,
value for money machines that suit the typical Australian. Whether it be
a farmer herding cattle or a young business woman on her way to work,
there is a Kymco for everyone,” Collins said.
“With Kymco, we have a great Taiwanese brand that is managed by a local
team of industry professionals - and supported by a nationwide dealer
network - who all have a great understanding of Australian conditions
and what is important to our customers. This understanding has been a
significant part of our success.
“What is unique about Kymco in Australia is that we have had the
opportunity to establish a globally acclaimed brand from the ground-up
over the past 2.5 years – to build a business with a pulse, a heart and
soul, and with a culture and values that will sustain us through the
tougher times as we’ve seen in 2010. The Kymco name stands for a lot,
and our respect and care for the brand, our dealers and our customers is
a large factor in the growth we saw last year, and will continue to see
for years to come. ”
In 2010 the Kymco Downtown 300i was voted ‘2010 Scooter of the Year’ by Motorcycle.com (www.motorcycle.com).
This prestigious award was another feather in Kymco’s cap, and yet
another example of the superior engineering and quality of the Kymco
brand.
Motorcycle.com stated that: “The Downtown 300i excels in so many
categories with its engaging aesthetics and masterfully balanced
handling, there is little room for improvement.”
While 2010 saw the Australian motorcycle market contract, Kymco
Australia was able to prevail and make a fantastic leap as an industry
frontrunner. With high-level warranty support, outstanding after sales
service and a product that has stood the test of time around the globe,
Kymco is poised for even further growth over 2011.
Kymco bikes are built with quality, reliability and most importantly
with you in mind! And it is because of these intelligent and impressive
designs that in 2010 Kymco Australia landed on its feet running.
With tough, reliable, stylish and versatile products continuing to be
introduced to the range, Kymco is expecting this growth to only get
bigger in 2011.
