Scooter News Scooter Storage One of the main reasons we buy a scooter is storage. Here's a little tale of how much you can carry on a scooter!
Allen Drysdale
So just how much can you fit on or in a scooter?
I'll set the scene....
The phone rings, it's the Mrs, "Can you get some groceries on the way home, the fridge is bare, you know just the things we need". Yes I replied knowing it normally takes me hours to scour the isles with the goal of satisfying everyone's needs, especially the kiddies.
I'm on the Kymco Downtown for this occasion, I pull into the local Coles and pull out the trolley, I immediately decline the basket option - we are going way beyond the basket.
Once into a rhythm, the trolley starts to fill and pretty soon I forget the fact I'm on a scooter. That is till I get to the car park, look at the Downtown, and ask myself the question - how's it all going to fit?
Start Packing
So here we go, just how much can you pile into a scooter? Just how handy are they for storage? Can you jam a weeks worth of general groceries onboard?
In answer to all the questions, its a resounding yes. A total of 14 bags in total, everything from half a celery to a couple of rolls of paper towel. I immediately thought what a great story, another victory for the trusty scooter.
Tips On Packing
So a scooter will always win hands down when it comes to conveniently being able to store items you need to carry. A big round of applause needs to go to the bag hook. A feature that is scooter specific and worth the price of admission alone, just look at the pictures. If your scooter has a hook, you'll never get caught short.
Other tips include,
- Leave large bulky items for the bag hook.
- Don't waste room under the seat on soft items like paper towel.
- Carry eggs on the bag hook (rest them on other bags), not under the seat.
- Use the rear footpegs to ride home.
- Pack things you might want to nibble on within handy reach for the trip home
Other benefits of performing the shopping run on a scooter include: you can park for nix and secondly you can also conveniently position yourself directly outside the mall entry.
Practical, convenient and smart, do you own a scooter?
