Scooter News Madass Trippers Cooktown to the top of Queensland on a total of 28 Sachs Madass scooters. Not something you see everyday of the week.
The ScooterShed
A possible world record event is about to occur this year on the 25th September when 28 intrepid (read MAD) riders venture forth onto the 800kms of rough and dusty road from Cooktown to the Top of Queensland, all in the name of a charity ride for ANGEL FLIGHT (caring for kids in the bush).
The trip is not as daunting as you may think, in a 4wd or on a BMW GS or similar, but these far northerners are a tough bunch and will be doing this trip on a SACHS MADASS 50cc 4 speed Moped. A great little machine with a blistering 50kph top speed, road tyres and basically stock, except for some small mods to aid reliability and keep the dust out.
Over the last 2 months, The ScooterShed in Cairns has been pre-delivering all these machines to the fully subscribed locals and has provided generous spares and technical support for the ride. The locals have been attuning their butts, running bikes in and sorting them for the arduous journey, planned to take 8 days.
The local Regional Council, major business players in town are all involved, with many backup vehicles and fuel being provided for free. ANGEL FLIGHT will benefit to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars from the ride, with the locals having already raised some $7000 from bowls days etc.
The gathering of 28 Madass 50’s on Sunday 25th September, for the start of the journey, could well be a world record for the largest assembly of ‘mopeds’ of one type embarking on one of the worlds most challenging journeys. Here’s hoping they all make it safely as well as the support crews of 50 or so others.
Google Facebook ‘madass tiptrippers’ and watch the ride. A video will also be produced.
Truly MAD, Truly Madass.
