2012 Motorcycle/Scooter Show

See 2012's biggest bikes in the flesh at the Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show

Toby Lynch

For many manufacturers it is a case of first stop, EICMA, second stop, the Sydney Motorcycle & Scooter Show, with a number of new bikes breaking cover for the first time in Australia.

The November 25-27 event will bring the best new sports bikes, cruisers, tourers, dirt bikes, scooters, ATVs and more, direct to enthusiasts across one all-encompassing show floor.

The anticipated arrival of Ducati’s groundbreaking new Superbike, the 1199 Panigale, has been confirmed and will be a major drawcard.

The Italian manufacturer claims it compromised nothing in creating a bike that was 10kg lighter but packed an extra 25hp.

Moving to the new monocoque chassis results in a bike capable of setting new power-to-weight and torque-to-weight benchmarks.

Ducati’s acclaimed ride and power modes are present, along with the ride by wire system, electronic suspension, traction control, ABS, engine brake control, quickshift and a data analyser with an integrated GPS function for the track.

12 years after it introduced the first of its highly-successful range of WRF enduro bikes, Yamaha is set to uncover its anticipated 2012 WR450F.

The Japanese manufacturer has gone back to the drawing board with the bike.

Among the major changes are the development of a new aluminium bilateral beam frame and twin-chamber front and rear suspension, both of which draw influence from the newest in the YZ motocross range.

A fuel injection system has been added and can now be tuned by the pocket-sized power tuner which proved so popular on the new YZ450F.

The Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC is another machine that will prove popular to the purists with its sophisticated electronics management package.

Intelligent traction, wheelie and launch control are customisable to the rider with a variety of settings, and a quick-shift system allows shifting without throttle release or use of the clutch.

Aprilia’s success on the World Superbike stage has resulted in a production motorcycle derived directly from the race track.

The cost-friendly RSV4 R, also benefiting from the APRC system, will also be on show.

Other anticipated releases set for the show include the Suzuki GSX-R1000L2, 2012 Yamaha YZF-R1, 2012 Honda CBR1000RR, 2012 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R, Triumph Sprint GT, Victory Cross Country Tour, Can-Am Outlander 800R X MR, Husqvarna Nuda 900R, KTM 690 Duke, plus more.

Race bikes, race replicas, concepts and historic machines will also create a strong talking point across the many and varied exhibits.
