Media Release Honda recognised for environmental achievements Honda Australia has received an award from Sustainability Victoria in recognition of their commitment to the environment through the “Waste Wise” Business Program.
Honda Australia Honda Australia takes a unique corporate approach to reducing the impact of company activities on the environment by engaging in a range of initiatives and being as proactive as possible.
These initiatives include recycling a variety of items on a regular basis such as cardboard, paper, metal, wood, oil, tyres and batteries.
Other processes that Honda incorporates as part of their company culture include use of double sided
as well as recycled paper for printing, reducing energy usage (electricity in particular), catching,
storing and using rain water for watering gardens and washing equipment, and composting kitchen scraps
for garden use.
The Award was presented by Jon Ward, Manager - Business & Industry Programs, Sustainability Victoria who was accompanied by Kiam Yoong, Project Manager, Business & Industry Programs, Sustainability Victoria.
Ward noted how Honda is setting a wonderful example for the rest of the corporate community.
“The community are really behind what we are trying to achieve, but companies are much slower to get on board so it is very rewarding when we see an organisation like Honda leading by example,” Ward said.
“Through the programs put in place by Honda’s Environmental Committee, they are recycling around 55% of their disposals which is a fantastic rate.”
Honda’s Managing Director, Stuart Strickland, accepted the Award on behalf of the company, noting how it ties in with Honda’s global philosophy.
“We are a company that aims to be clean throughout every one of our divisions including Motorcycles, Power
Equipment and Marine, and we are keen to support environmental initiatives in the best way that we can.”
“It’s just a shame that we aren’t yet seeing the Government doing more to restrict certain kinds of emissions
in this country,” he commented further.
“I believe we will get there, and Honda will certainly be at the forefront of that philosophical shift.”
