Scooter Review VMoto Milan JX50 Want a cute scooter? Look no further than Perth
- Western Australia is one of the forward- thinking states that has legislation in place to allow anyone with a driver’s licence to ride a speed-restricted 50cc automatic scooter and that’s good news for Vmoto, a wholly Australian-owned brand of scooter, based in Perth.
Vmoto’s Milan Jx50 is a retro-styled scooter, made in China’s largest motorcycle factory – which produces more than 2.5 million motorcycles and scooters per annum for a variety of different companies spanning the globe. Vmoto managing director Bill Ali says: “This particular factory was carefully chosen because of its state-of-the-art facilities and good reputation in the US and Europe. The Americans that sell their products regard their engine plant as the world’s best, the engines have proven to be bullet-proof and beautifully made... attention to detail is found everywhere you look on the scooter.”
Although less well known in the Eastern states, Vmoto has been a success story in Western Australia where it quickly became that state’s best selling scooter. Owners there benefit from an after-sales service and parts back-up including mobile service vans which come to you.
The Milan Jx has a zippy two-stroke engine and both electric and kick-starting systems, and 14 litres of helmet storage under the seat and a small pack-rack on the back but perhaps the stand-out feature of the scooter is its colour range. There are six colours in the range: Euro silver; Mod black; Champagne gold; Fiery Italian red; Bondi blue; and Bakelite green. There is nothing too startling about that but, and this is the unique feature, if you want to change colours, all you have to do is to ride to your local dealer, fork out $250, and the dealer will not only replace all the panels with a new colour set, but will store the old ones and refit them for $50 while you wait. So you can either change the complete colour scheme or, once you’ve bought the replacement set, you could mix and match for a twotone effect. Now that’s flexibility – not to mention the option for building up a truly individual piece of personal transport.
There is also have an extensive range of other options and merchandising in the pipeline as well as a string of new models with various engine capacities due for release shortly.
Given the sales success of the Milan Jx in its home market, WA, and the bargain pricing, there should be no shortage of rainbow coloured scooters all over the countryside soon.
