Scooter Review Bolwell LeGrande 200 Comfort, style and luxurious accommodation. What more could you want?
- A couple of centuries ago, when postilions were still being struck by lightning, genteel English folk of a certain disposition were accustomed to undertake what was known as The Grand Tour, viewing the Continent and all its joys with a typically stiff upper lip.
These days, rather than riding in a carriage, they might be tempted by a maxi scooter and Bolwell have got something tailor- made: the LeGrande.
Available in both 125cc – squeaking into the NSW scooter licence class – and 200 (180cc) forms, the LeGrande has been designed from the ground up as a touring scooter. The riding position is great and there is plenty of room for the rider but where the scooter shines is in pillion accommodation. There is a handy backrest which aids those important feelings of confidence and neatly styled grab handles under the seat, again making the pillion’s lot a happy one. The major plus for the pillion, however, comes in the King/Queen nature of the seat, a twopart affair which places the pillion high above the rider, allowing an unobstructed view of the road ahead – far better than staring at a helmet logo all day. Both perches are very comfortable.
The LeGrande 200 has more than enough poke to keep up with highway traffic, more than enough comfort to carry the two of you into the distance and more than enough style to do it all with a panache those travellers of old could only dream of.
