Scooter Review Bug Bandit 50 On board the Bug Bandit 50, you can just about get away with anything
Photography by JEREMY BOWDLER Like a bandit from a bank job this little beast will get you away from anywhere with the greatest of ease, even if getting away from the highway patrol may be a bit more of a struggle. Thumb the electric start and just twist and go. The perfect getaway machine! And when it comes time to stop the disc-brake front end will pull you up in a hurry.
When it comes time to fuelling up it doesn’t get much easier, either. The Bandit is a two-stroke and therefore it requires a mix of oil and petrol to fire the engine into life. But, like all modern two-stroke scooters the days of sitting in the servo driveway and measuring your oil/petrol ratios are over. The auto-mix means all you do is fill up the oil bottle, fill up the petrol tank and off you go. And you won’t need to fill up too often courtesy of the 5.5-litre petrol tank.
The Bandit carries 10-inch hoops front and rear making for a rather plush ride courtesy of the balloon tyres. There are seven colours for the Bandit: silver, blue, charcoal, musk, red, yellow and purple.
And, as with most scooters, the Bandit carries a good deal of storage space. The under-seat area is enough for a helmet and the glovebox will fit a set of gloves and a bundled up set of wet-weather gear.
For just shy of $1990 + ORC you can land yourself a Bandit 50 and that’s a steal.
