Scooter Review Bolwell Arriba 125 Bolwell’s 125cc Arriba is smarter than the average scooter
- The Arriba is a scooter with a difference, it’s a 125 made for two as it is slightly larger than usual. This, plus the addition of 12-inch wheels (the same size as the new Vespa GT200) make it suitable for riding on highways and freeways. In fact, the Arriba XS, a 150cc version, is capable of the Sydney to Melbourne trip (apparently some fearless Bolwell riders record $36 in fuel costs for the return journey...)
But back to the 125. It has a comprehensive dashboard, with speedo, tacho and fuel gauge as well as digital clock. There is a luggage hook below the dashboard, the ubiquitous under-seat storage and a lockable fuel cap for the good sized 6.7-litre tank.
The engine is a single-cylinder, four-stroke with a catalytic converter to reduce emissions. Braking is taken care of via a single disc up front with a drum brake at the back.
Pillion accommodation looks good, as befits the cruiser Bolwell claims the Arriba is - there is a substantial grab-rail set-up for the passenger and both rider and pillion benefit from aluminium non-slip foot pads.
The styling is sharp, with twin “fox-eye” headlights, flanked by triangular running lights at either side, mounted just above the front mudguard, and a smart, wedge-shaped instrument pod.
If you are looking for a larger scooter to take your size, or a pillion into account, but still want to fall into the NSW 125cc scooter licence category, then the Arriba should appeal.
