Scooter News Gilera Nexus 125 - 250 Not released in Australia the 250 Nexus gets some extra storage while a 125 cc version is added to the Nexus famiglia. The Gilera Nexus is sold in Australia in only the 500 cc guise.
Piaggio The Gilera Nexus which was recently revised in its 500 cc format in Australia has now been released in a 125 cc version overseas. This gives 16 year olds in countries like Italy and France the opportunity to ride a Maxi Sports Scooter. With this release Gilera has also been able to increase the underseat storgae on the 250 cc model as well. Read on........
The practicality of a scooter, the sensations of a motorcycle and Gilera style: a dream that can now become reality for 16-year-olds.
A new 125cc displacement and even more load capacity thanks to a sizeable underseat storage bay that holds two helmets make the Nexus 125 a practical, fun sport GT, the ideal companion in town traffic and an exuberant ride on tougher out-of-town rides.
“A scooter that rides like a bike”: in 2003, Gilera revolutionised the world of scooters with the Nexus. This ‘maxi’ scooter took a single-cylinder electronic injection engine and added unprecedented running gear for a scooter.
The Gilera Nexus thereby created a new class of scooter, suitable for everyday use but capable of offering unrestricted riding pleasure when the road leads out of town into curves and varying surfaces.
The sport appeal of the Nexus is now available to the youngest riders in several European countries: with maximum power restricted to 14.5 hp (10.7 KW), you can ride the new Gilera Nexus 125 at 16 with an A1 licence or at 18 with a car licence. The engine is a reliable single cylinder 4 stroke, 4 valve, liquid-cooled LEADER that takes the Nexus 125 to a top speed of over 100 km/h.
Daring style
The style changes on the latest Nexus series are aimed at emphasising the scooter’s racy feel while improving everyday-use features.
The central air intake, positioned between the headlights to underline the scooter’s punchy looks, is a strong design statement. No fins or unnecessary decoration: just the thinnest of screens, in pure racing tradition. The Gilera logo, a stylish take on the historic two-ring brand, has been placed just above the air intake.
The front fairing has been lowered to give the frontal a Superbike touch, while two aerodynamic deflectors complete the frontal and serve to protect the rider’s hands.
The ergonomic Nexus seat provides a sport riding position that also manages to be very comfortable. The real new feature is under the seat. The underseat storage bay of the Nexus 125 has been totally re-designed without however altering the sleek tail end. The storage bay now holds a full-face as well as a jet helmet to make life easier for both rider and the passenger.
Excellent mechanicals
The Nexus 125’s aggressive looks suggest sport equipment and in fact its technical features are worthy of a higher-displacement scooter.
The Nexus 125 uses exactly the same frame as the 250cc, with a strong, reliable double shock absorber at the rear to enhance lightness and build simplicity and a traditional fork with 35mm shafts in front.
The braking system is made up of a 260 mm disc with a floating two-piston caliper in front and a 240 mm disc gripped by a caliper with opposite pistons on the rear wheel.
The 14” wheel rims mount a 120/70 tyre in front and a sizeable 140/60 at the rear, a choice that suits the sporty nature of the smallest Nexus.
The instrumentation and trip controls are the same ones used on the 250 and 500cc, further proof of an uncompromising design philosophy.
