Scooter News Piaggio Beverly Cruiser New from Piaggio the Beverly Cruiser has borrowed some motorcycle influences from Moto Guzzi giving this scooter a style all of its own.
Piaggio Only just released overseas the Piaggio Beverly Cruiser has not yet been designated for Australia.......
Six years from its launch, the Beverly range has grown with the addition of the Beverly Cruiser in 500 and 250cc versions. With revised, “motorcycle-style” looks, the new Beverly Cruiser offers performance at the top of its category thanks to the all-new double ignition 500 engine.
Extraordinarily agile, reliable and safe, the Piaggio Beverly revolutionised the scooter market when it was launched to rapidly become the top seller in the competitive medium and large displacement high wheel-scooter segment.
Having sold over 170,000 vehicles since 2001, the Piaggio Beverly is clearly a hit with customers. Ideal for town riding, the Beverly is also reliable and comfortable to use on mid-to-long range trips out of town.
And now there’s the Beverly Cruiser which is even better adapted to touring thanks to brilliant performance from its new 500 cc double ignition engine.
Styling
The central headlamp remains the most distinctive style element of the Beverly. This motorcycle-derived lamp has been placed on an all-new chrome tube handlebar, which replaces the earlier scooter-style painted plastic bar.
The impressive instrument panel is also motorcycle-derived: it is composed of two round, very readable chrome-plated displays, with chrome-plated rear view mirrors and finish worthy of this flagship cruiser.
The original location of the fuel gauge, also chrome-plated, at the top of the front shield helps give the handlebars and instrument panel a less cluttered look and adds a unique touch of class without detracting in any way from legibility.
The frontal features a wider, larger new grille with elaborately finished elements, calendered as on a car.
The chrome inserts on the cowls pick up on the chrome on the frontal to accentuate the vehicle’s sleek look.
Two special new shades of paint, aeronautical grey and elegant shiny black go together with the new seat upholstery to flatter the Beverly Crusier’s classy looks.
The rear features a new, more modern and racy mudguard. The rear rack composed of tubes is strongly built and offers substantial load capacity without weighing down the vehicle’s shape. Load capacity is boosted by a practical under-seat compartment, large enough to hold two semi-jet helmets.
The engine
The new engine on the Beverly Cruiser 500 is the latest in the Master (Multi-valve Advanced Super Torque Engine Range) 4 stroke, 4 valve, liquid-cooled series with electronic injection. The capacity of the new Piaggio Master double ignition engine has been upped to 493 cc so as to obtain maximum power of 39.5 hp at 7,250 rpm. The introduction of the twin spark system has also made it possible to optimise fuel combustion inside the cylinder and reduce noise and gas emissions. The result is a smooth, high-performance engine, very torquey at low and medium speeds, that lets the Beverly Cruiser 500 easily reach a top speed of 160 km/h.
Significantly, performance on this scooter rhymes with environment friendly: the reduction of emissions obtained through the use of an advanced closed loop injection system with a lambda sensor and three-way catalyser in the exhaust and integrated management of the electronic ignition system ensures that the Beverly Cruiser is in line with exacting Euro 3 norms. A substantial reduction in fuel consumption and quicker throttle response are other benefits of this engine.
The Beverly Cruiser 250 uses a 4 stroke, 4 valve, liquid-cooled electronic injection Quasar series engine that provides a 22 hp power output at 8,250 rpm to push the scooter to a top speed of 125 km/h. The Quasar 250 also uses an exhaust system equipped with a lambda sensor to ensure Euro 3 compatibility.
