Scooter Scoop James The second annual Le Minz 24 hour Scooter-a-thon was held at the Grand Prix Training Centre in South Morag, Victoria from 2pm Sept 12 to 2pm the following day.
14 Scooters entered in the ultimate reliability test for 50cc scooters in a closed circuit track.
The three categories are:
A Class
B Class
LA Moped Class restricted to less than 50kph
The entrants were divided into 5 individuals and Factory Teams
Teams comprised Bolwell with 3 entries, TGB 5, Yamaha 2, Arquin 3 and Aprilia 1.
Teams can have up to 3 riders rotating through the race. They must take mandatory 15 minute breaks ever 4 hours.
3 riders, including the winner, rode solo the whole time.
The aim of the event is to promote the reliability of scooters and to promote the upcoming Australian Motorcycle/Scooter Expos in Melbourne October 6 to 8 and Brisbane November 3 to 5.
A stipulation for entry into the Le Minz 24 hour is that all scooters must be available to be purchased in Australia. So you will see all of them on display at the Scooter Expos
Results of the Individual Division:
Winner the LA Moped Class went to Dale Corser (yes, brother of Troy) on a Arqin Sprint.
Winner of the B Class was Dave Raudham on a Yamaha Jog
Winner of the A Class was Omar Khaler on a TGB R50X
Omar has broken the World Record, previously 928km in 24 hours, with an extraordinary effort of 981km. The record has yet to be formally recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. Congratulations to Omar and the TGB Team.
Results in the Teams Division
Winner of the LA Class 2 stroke went to Team Netrider. This was an all ladies team riding TGB
Winner of the LA Class 4 stroke went to Team Southern Cross Promotions on a Yamaha
Winner of the A Class 4 stroke went to Team Bolwell on a PMX Naked clocking in 991km
Given that the aim of the race is to promote scooter reliability, the real winner was every entrant. Not one scooter broke down.
Special Announcement
The Indy Race Committee has accepted Southern Cross Promotions request to stage a Le Minz 24 hour Scooter-a -thon on October 16 and 17 at Parklands Showground on the Gold Coast as part of the, off track Indy Event (October 18 to 22)
Already Southern Cross Promotions has accepted 16 entrants and expects a full field of 20.
