Scooter News ADVERTISEMENT It's not only for scooters! Motorcycles join Around Australia on Two Wheels challenge.
Scootering Around Australia Scootering around Australia has opened its doors to motorcycles to join its month-long economy challenge ride around Australia.
Event organisers Julio Languiller and Neil Relph said the event, to be renamed Around Australia on Two Wheels, had attracted a lot of attention from motorcyclists wanting to get involved.
“The ride is only open to ten motorcycle teams, so riders need to secure their positions early,” Mr Languiller said.
“There will be a number of scooter teams competing, but given the interest we’ve received from motorcycling groups, they’re also welcome to join us.”
Mr Languiller said this was the first event of its kind in this country. The month-long event was designed to test the economy of scooters and motorcycles and was not focussed on speed.
“This is no small ride – it will cover over 15,000km in 30 days and that’s significantly more than most riders even achieve in 12 months,” he said.
Last year Mr Languiller created a world record by riding this same distance in two weeks. In total he has four world records for scooter endurance.
“With low fuel consumption, even lower fuel emissions and nowadays being manufactured out of recyclable materials, commuters are recognising that scooters and motorcycles are a fine green alternative to the car, or public transport, and are converting to two wheels.
“Now people who enjoy their two-wheel travelling and who want a real adventure can get involved and see what these vehicles can really do.”
Mr Languiller said the start date would remain the same as that of the scooter challenge – on Sunday 5 August from Melbourne.
The tour would travel around the country, starting with Adelaide and Perth, then up to Darwin, Richmond, Cairns, and down the Eastern Coast, stopping in all major cities and a number of towns, returning to Melbourne in the first week of September.
“We’d love to see some female riders as well as the men – and in fact, if we could have a few women’s teams that would take the cake. This is an economy ride, not a race, which therefore makes it perfect for women to get on board,” Mr Languiller said.
Mr Languiller said prize money would be presented to the most economical motorcycles and scooters. Log on to www.scooteringaroundaustralia.com.au or contact Julio Languiller on 0438 089 586 or Neil Relph on 0409 326 444 for more information.
