Scooter News A Night To Remember Spent a night recently on the track fine tuning the scooter skills and wasnt it a scooting good time.
Allen Drysdale I was recently invited to what is becoming a monthly ritual at Willowbank Kart Track in South Eastern Queensland. Organised by Scooter HQ on the Gold Coast, I was invited to take part in one of the track nights this being the third event and something that is only in its infancy.
In a group of converts it was easy to see why everybody was there, it was all for the love of riding scooters. This was a night to remember for sure and truly addictive.
After taking a short session on the rules and regulations about the track it was time to get out and taste what all this was about. With around 13 scooters rolling around the track the atmosphere was truly electric. Everybody getting used to the corners the track and each other.
On the night scooters were the dominant class at the track so track time was ample and before I knew it I was out again. Sessions were around 15 minutes long and enough to get into the swing of things.
On a scooter of a 50 cc capacity it is simple to feel like a GP star as you try and get through that corner just that little smoother as it really was all about corner speed. The smoother you ride the quicker you are. Anybody could do it and walk away with a whole bunch of new skills. Just think about the skill of looking through corners, by the end of the night you will have this licked.
And it’s something that all skill levels can have a go at as it really is at your own pace. Want have a bit of a fun time with a few other riders, no problem. Want to have some time just getting your cornering worked out, no problem. Want to set a lap time that will sit you on pole position at the next GP, again no problem.
The riding style is totally up to you.
So full marks to the guys for all turning out and supporting this event it was great and something that deserves to be taken further.
Driving home I just couldn’t stop thinking to myself just how I could get to the next one!
I had a scooter for the night lent to me but for normal participants it meant a short hike in a trailer and a couple of minutes to take off the mirrors.
A few minor costs like time on the track and a small fee for a licence is also required.
