Gilera Storm

Think Piaggio Typhoon add a couple of changes and presto we have the Storm. Gilera release the funky little 50 to join the sporty range in Europe.

Piaggio Press

Warning! Storm approaching!
The Storm is the latest compact sports scooter from Gilera.

With its 50 cc engine and powerful personality, the Storm clearly shares the same sporting origins as all Gilera scooters. Agility and responsiveness are the main features of this brand new road going fifty from Gilera.

The new Gilera Storm is packed with personality. The front is characterised by streamlined lines and a leg shield that extends forwards over the wheel to act as front mudguard. Air intakes just under the headlight cluster enhance the scooter’s sporty appearance and optimise air flow aerodynamics, making the Gilera Storm even more aggressive. The handlebars are mounted well above the leg shield, and extend from a tinted nose fairing that gives the Storm an aggressive look and houses flush-fitting, clear plastic direction indicators.

The sporty, energy-packed soul of the Storm is enhanced by racing graphics and characterised by attractive details like the mirrors, nose fairing, platform, and exhaust. The shiny black wheels even feature a red trim line in keeping with Gilera’s legendary racing tradition. The sleek rear of the scooter, with its characteristic lateral air intakes, embodies typical Gilera racing spirit.

Designed for everyday life on the toughest of all circuits – our towns and cities – the Storm provides a comfortable ride even two up. Added passenger safety is provided by a grab strap on the luxurious long seat while passenger comfort is ensured by practical folding footrests.

Even the design of the instruments pays homage to the sporting soul of Gilera. The round instruments (speedometer, rev counter and fuel gauge) feature red digits on a black background and are elegantly trimmed in a combination of matt black and satin finished aluminium. The instrumentation comes complete with fuel reserve and low oil warning lights, turn, dipped and main beam indicators.

Chassis

The new Gilera Storm stands out for the reliability and safety afforded by its advanced chassis. The frame is made from high strength steel tube. The super-sporty, 12” five spoke wheels are both fitted with 120/70 tubeless tyres with road-going tread patterns. Powerful, safe braking is provided by a 190 mm front disc and a reliable 110 mm drum brake at the rear. There can be no doubt about the strength and reliability of the suspension either: the upside down hydraulic fork boasts 30 mm stanchions and the hydraulic monoshock at the rear is extremely robust in design.

Engine

The Gilera Storm is powered by a reliable, modern, 50 cc air cooled two stroke engine that conforms to Euro2 standards, the strictest emission control standards required of 50cc two wheelers. The Hi-Per2 engine delivers plenty of performance for riders seeking a powerful but young and easy-to-use engine. Excellent engine flexibility makes the new Storm the perfect companion around town, where any journey is a continuous succession of “stop and go” manoeuvres.

The new Gilera Storm 50 is available in a choice of classic sports colour schemes:
Dragon Red, Shiny Black and Optical White.
