Scooter News 2007 24hr Le Minz Le Minz 24 Hour Scooterthon Hits Gold Coast Again In 2007
Toby Lynch, Fluid Public Relations. It's possibly the world's most demanding scooter event, and it's back for 2007. The Le Minz 24 Hour Scooterthon is the ultimate test of machine, namely, an extensive range of scooters available in showrooms across the nation.
To be contested once again at the Parklands Showgrounds on the Gold Coast, the gruelling endurance event will pit a variety of 50cc, 2 stroke and 4 stroke scooters against one another to gauge their durability and efficiency.
At midday on Saturday September 8, man (or woman) and machine will grid up for what is set to be an enthralling and eye-opening battle - which make and model will go the distance?
Only time will tell - midday on Sunday September 9, to be exact. It is the first time that the popular endurance showdown has been held on a weekend, making the free-admission event even more accessible to the public.
In addition to providing a level playing field for riders to showcase the latest machines from manufacturers, the event also provides a monumental amount of positive mainstream exposure for scooters as their popularity soars.
In 2006, Le Minz attracted widespread coverage from media outlets including Prime 7, NBN, Channel 9, Channel 7, Sea FM 90.9, Hot Tomato 102.9, Gold FM 92.5, ABC, and the Gold Coast Bulletin and Sun newspapers.
Three classes will contend the promotion - A, B and C. The LA Moped A Class will see all eyes fixated on a group of off-the-shelf models that do not exceed 50km/h, the ultimate test of reliability.
Participants mounted aboard 2 stroke and 4 stroke 50cc machines will not only be vying for the outright win, but also trying to set a new Guinness world record, for the most kilometres travelled on a 50cc scooter.
The record books have been re-written three times in the last 3 events, and riders will be aiming to topple the newest benchmark set by Julio Languiller in early 2007.
Event Organiser Mark Petersen of Exhibition and Trade Fairs said the Le Minz 24 Hour Scooterthon was a fun and interesting spectacle making for great viewing.
"Le Minz showcases the very latest scooters on the market, testing reliability and efficiency on a level playing field. With scooter sales booming, it's important for consumers to see the strengths of what's available, it's usually the riders that fail before the scooters do " said Petersen.
"The three different classes of individuals and teams participating will ensure that scooters of equal capacity are pitted against each other, so no one has an unfair advantage."
"The fully-lit karting track at the Parklands Showground is perfect for the purpose and we're excited to be heading back for 2007."
Le Minz is held on the closed-course Go Kart circuit to ensure safety for riders, and more importantly riding 24 hours with minimum mandatory breaks is not recommended for public roads.
The event is open to manufacturers, importers & distributors of scooters exhibiting at either the Australian Motorcycle Expo Brisbane (September 21-23) or the Australian Motorcycle Expo Melbourne (October 5-7).
A maximum 20 scooters will participate in the 2007 event with all profits raised being donated to the Autism Association of NSW.
Manufacturers wishing to participate should contact Le Minz 24 Hour organisers Exhibition and Trade Fairs.
