Omar has broken the World Record, previously 928km in 24 hours, with an extraordinary effort of 981km. The record has yet to be formally recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. Congratulations to Omar and the TGB Team
Event organised by Southern Cross Promotions
Between 2pm on Tuesday 12 September and 2pm today, Omar Khalek completed 981 kilometres aboard his 50cc TGB scooter. The distance was enough to set a new Guinness World record that that was 52 kilometres more than the previous record achieved by Mark Brown at the 2005 Le Minz 24 Hour Scooterthon. Khalek also won the A Class.
According to Khalek, today’s result was a lot more challenging than he expected with himself and his scooter beating the tangible and intangible challenges the IXON Le Minz 24 Hour Scooterthon presented.
“It’s a personal achievement to walk away with the new record and it is certainly something which I am very excited about. Not only was the event physically demanding but it was also mentally challenging. I came to the endurance test with the idea to set the record and enjoy the event overall,” Khalek said.
“I’d like to thank TGB for supplying me with a scooter and SCP [Southern Cross Promotions] for organising the event and putting so much effort into ensuring that it happened.”
