Hello computer whizzs! Yes, I'm talking to you; the one who knows how to fix my PC problem. I have a laptop at home with a wireless card connecting to a D Link wireless router. The router plugs into a telephone/ADSL filter that plugs into the wall. All the correct lights are on the router but it's not connecting to my PC. I've tried turning everything off; I've checked connections; I've run Windows diagnostics; I've contacted my ISP and gone through the re-connection process. It worked for a while but now everything seems to have died again. I have no idea what I'm doing! Any suggestions? Buy a new router; a new telephone/ADSL filter; a new PC; resort to handwriting letters and sending them to people; slashing my wrists and ending it all? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
PS - I'm writing this at work |

Writing letters is a possible way to do things but who would you send them to? There are so many of us reading the forum that you'd need to make many copies to make sure we all are updated on the scooter scene in Dubbo.
Seriously I've had similar problems on two laptops. The reason was that I had acisentially turned-off the wireless connection. I hadn't turned it off in the sfotware but via the keyboard. One laptop had a specific button for activating the wireless connection. The other was by pressing Ctrl and F2 at the same time (or something similar). Have a look on your keyboard and see if that does the trick.
Good Luck! |

Your wireless drivers may have been updated and the WEP or WPA keys could have been lost and need to be re-entered. Also if you router was left open access and the password was still the default dlink one, it could have been 'owned' and changed by someone in the local area.
Lots of possibilities. Really need to be there to have a look. |

Had an IT mate of mine look at it the other day. The modem setup says the link from my modem to my ISP is disconnected. The modem and the PC are talking but something is happening between the modem and Dodo. I rang Dodo and the accented person on the other end of the line says it may be a security problem or maybe I need to hang my modem higher to move it away from my carpeted floor (???). I disconnect the cable between the modem and the phone line; plug it back in when I need to use the internet and that seems to work. I'll get back to Dodo about it after I've set up my aquarium. Thnaks for tyouer concern. Cheers

Think your hubby might be right Dakoda. As much as I hate the idea, I think my router is on the way out and will need to be replaced. Money; what's it for anyway; I have to spend it before my kids get it! Cheers

Fair dunkum! Maybe there's hope for me yet. The only time I've had trouble in the past was a dicky filter that I replaced and all was well. Might be an idea to buy a new filter first then go for the bigger items!
