Gold Coast Motorcycle Expo

A wrap of the top scooter news direct from the Gold Coast Motorcycle, Scooter and PWC Expo.

The gold coast motorcycle expo has taken place with a show of strength from an industry that experienced some pretty tough times in 2009. Scooters were prominent with a host of new and exciting models being seen on the gold coast for the first time. was on hand to cover the event conducting a host of interviews and keeping adrift of what was new and fresh for 2010.

Kymco Australia

Kymco Australia once again showed why it means business for 2010 and beyond with a major display of strength across its three ever expanding model ranges of scooters, motorcycles and ATV's. With a range of new models about to hit we had the opportunity to take a look at these first hand.

We also got the scoop on the upcoming Kymco Like 200i. An injected 175 cc version of the Kymco classic, the Like will arrive before the end of the 1st half, 2010 with a retail price of just $3990 + ORC. See our Stop Press:Interview HERE for more on the LIke 200i. We also took a first hand look at the Like 50 and 125 that will hit Australia in March 2010. Both look stunning, and you can see that interview HERE

The Kymco Downtown 300i will land in March with ABS and a full 300cc capacity, 4 valve engine. At $7490 + ORC its pretty much the entry level price point for ABS in Australia(on a scooter). A fully featured scooter with tons of storage and ability, see our interview with Kymco on the Downtown 300i HERE

Whilst still with Kymco we also chat to Alan Collins, the National Sales and Marketing Manager, about what the year holds for the Taiwanese brand locally. See that interview HERE

Piaggio consistently shows why its the brand of strength on the Australian scooter market with a full showing of Vespa, Piaggio and Gilera scooters. The shiny new X7 300 EVO was up front and centre along with a host of other models that make up the broad range.

The all new X7 300 EVO has arrived with an entry level price unchanged from the 250 model it replaces. Seen for the first time in Australia at any show the X7 300 EVO will hit the ground running at $6990 + ORC.  We caught up with Gavan Moody from Piaggio Australia and see why he thinks the X7 will be the next all round scooter that can put its name down for any task. See that interview HERE

Gavan also takes us on a guided tour of what else is new and happening across the three Piaggio brands. We take an in-depth look at that forgotten 50 the Zip 50 2T and also catch up on just why the Fly 125 is Australia's best selling scooter. See our interview on the LX Vespa range as these models evolve into a fuel injected masterpiece.

TGB and Sachs had a significant showing of models across the range also. The all new TGB Tapo was the highlight. An all new 50 cc scooter with all the hallmarks and features you'd expect from Europe and not Taiwan. This classy 50 will be on sale before the end of the 1st half, 2010. Ralph from Mojo took time out to explain why the Tapo could be a real winner in the under $2000 50 cc segment. See that interview HERE

Ralph also covers the new TGB Bullet 125, a totally underrated model that holds so much promise. A commuter it sure is, with the sporty looks to rival any super-sport motorcycle. See our interview HERE

The TGB Hawk is one scooter we just don't talk about enough. Great colour schemes along with a robust nature make the Hawk a hassle free package. Available in both 50 and 125 cc, the Hawk will impress anyone that gets close. See why for yourself HERE

And the hard working TGB Delivery. See why its no slouch in this interview.

For Sachs it was a case of looking at why the Amici 125 has taken on a life of its own. The 2nd largest selling scooter on the market in Australia for January 2010, the Amici is making its presence felt. WHY? Ralph gives us some understanding.

Yamaha became a world of its own, with an amazing array of models spanning from bikes for on road and off, Scooters, ATV's as well as the Jet Ski range. Clearly capitalising on Honda's downgrade in advertising spend Yamaha certainly took full advantage.  Yamaha had the full range of scooters sold in Australia on display with the most excitement centred around the EC-f Concept.
