2012 Aprilia Scarabeo 200 is Here

2012 Scarabeo 200 now available in dealerships across Australia

The Aprilia Scarabeo 200 is set to take 2012 by storm. With the new model hitting dealerships around the country at a mere $4650 + ORC, the Scarabeo brings a new meaning to affordable commuting. Loads of style and power to match.

The new Scarabeo is the cherry on top, the icing on the cake or just a really well thought out upgrade. All we've seen is the press blurb, but from what we can see, Aprilia have revised the seat, the front and rear end styling and chucked on a set of Michelin tyres as standard fitment. For me its taken a great package and applied a few minor adjustments that will make a mountain of difference. The 2012 Scarabeo looks "the ducks nuts"....

Well and truly looking forward to this one, it's typical of the Scarabeo family to evolve, especially since the first Scarabeo was launched back in 1993. For further history on how the Scarabeo family was formed see this article HERE.

Press by Aprilia Italy - 125 not available in Australia, 200 cc Version Only....

An unmistakable style and a departure from the standard, for those who want to move around in safety, setting themselves apart from the masses, astride an authentic icon of style.

All of this is Scarabeo, a compact, performance scooter with low fuel consumption – ideal for the city – which is now drastically renewed in its medium size 125 and 200 versions.

Patriarch and best seller in the high wheel scooter sector – with more than 750,000 units manufactured from 1993 to the present – Scarabeo has always shown itself to be a unique vehicle, able to evolve to adapt over time to the changing needs of the market.

Faithful to this philosophy, that which was the first Scarabeo undergoes a profound technical and aesthetic renewal, nevertheless maintaining its unmistakable stylistic identity which has made it a success.

The new Scarabeo 125/200 i.e. is intended as an ideal vehicle to meet all the needs of modern mobility, from the home to work commute to longer rides, distinguishing itself with its elegant style and great practicality, which are accompanied by brilliant performance and comfort levels at the top of its category.

Its unique design, a classic example of Italian style, once again follows the guidelines that should be an inspiration to everyone. Its refinement of construction outdistances everything that is “simply a scooter”.

Scarabeo 125/200 i.e. is the luxury “entry level” model of the Scarabeo range, due to its quality/price ratio which, if defined as exceptional, is at the very least an understatement.

New design: the details that count.

There are many style/feature interventions which contributed to the restyling of the new Scarabeo 125/200 i.e., starting with the shield which right from the first glance flaunts the new oval grille: a decisive reminiscence of the classic Scarabeo family styling and at the same time refined aesthetics which are aimed at lightening the front and giving it a touch of elegance.

There is also a new solution for the front turn indicators which "come down" to the base of the steering – in a more visible position – at the same time leaving space for a new and lighter design of the front handlebar covering, which holds a brand new pair of chromium plated mirrors.
The shape of the front mudguard also changes, remodelled to surround a new groove which, besides enhancing the design, performs the important function of optimising air flow through the radiator.

The soft lines of the front join together with the strong lines of the rear through the oval of the side – an indispensable element of the Scarabeo design – in a play of continuity and contrasts which inspires harmony at first glance.

The entire tail was remodelled and lightened as well as the taillight, and it now hosts a new saddle, doubled into two independent seats: a solution which, combined with the new internal foam, significantly increases the level of comfort for rider and passenger alike.

Comfort which is guaranteed on the Scarabeo by the windshield integrated into the steering – standard equipment – and by the indispensable flat footrest which, combined with the sturdy and lightweight aluminium luggage carrier and the practical helmet compartment, allows the load to be increased to unexpected levels for an agile, high wheel scooter.

The totally complete analogue-digital instrument panel offers an actual on-board computer that can be controlled directly from the handlebar. Standing out amongst the many available options is the outside temperature reading with “ice warning” that alerts the rider to any ice present. The stand was designed to provide a very convenient lever arm: parking the Scarabeo is child's play.

As has always been true for the Scarabeo, once again its classic line embraces the best of available technology. The engine of the Scarabeo 125/200 ie was designed and developed expressly for this scooter. This cutting-edge, light, rational and clean engine offers outstanding performance and fuel economy with remarkably low vibration and ultra-low emissions, in keeping with the Scarabeo philosophy of creating only environment-friendly vehicles.

Both engines are liquid-cooled and equipped with four valve timing with double overhead camshafts, a sophisticated solution that optimises engine operation.

The adoption of electronic fuel injection has brought with its enormous benefits in terms of both performance - maximum speed, pick-up and acceleration - and consumption by further lowering the fuel demands of this already parsimonious scooter. Scarabeo 125/200 i.e. also provides the user with the possibility of choosing from two mappings. Directly from the handlebar the rider can select the ECO mode which reduces consumption by up to 7%, or the SPORT mode which optimises performance.

The 200 engine boasts a good 19HP (14 kW) at 9,000 rpm with an extremely favorable torque (17.1 Nm at 7,000 rpm), making the Scarabeo lively during acceleration while still being relaxing and safe in all riding conditions.

The 125 cc engine produces the maximum power output permitted by law for its capacity, and can be ridden with just a normal category B driver's license.

A responsive and safe ride is ensured by its 14.3HP (10.5 kW) along with its particularly light weight, making the Scarabeo one of the lightest vehicles of its category.

Scarabeo's classic and fashionable style has never placed limits on the engineers in terms of definition of the chassis: the new Scarabeo 125/200 ie was conceived with the goal of confirming those unique characteristics in terms of riding ease, performance and safety which have made Scarabeo an icon of urban mobility.

These results are attributable to the exceptionally high torsional stiffness and strength of the steel tubing frame, and to the perfectly optimised configuration of the suspension, which delivers superb feedback yet also has an outstanding capability to absorb bumps.

The telescopic hydraulic fork boasts stanchions 35 mm in diameter, while at the rear, the engine-transmission unit doubles as the swingarm, aided by a secondary aluminium arm: It is a simple and lightweight, and at the same time effective, solution, also thanks to the possibility of adjusting the spring preload on four positions, depending on the transported weight and the riding style.

The five spoke wheels with their refined design, are dressed with 16 inch, high profile tubeless Michelin tyres (100/80 on the front and 120/80 on the rear); a perfect duo for getting round all the traps of the city and which contribute to giving the vehicle excellent stability and intuitive riding, within reach of any user, whatever experience he may have.

The braking system is comprised of a 260 mm disc on the front with three-piston floating calliper, and 220 mm on the rear with fixed calliper with two opposed pistons, controlled by an integral braking system capable of distributing the braking over the two wheels and guaranteeing reduced braking distances, all to the advantage of active safety.

The new Scarabeo 125/200 ie is available in six different colour schemes, all metallic: Nero Aprilia, Bianco Flair, Silver Crowd, Blue Couture, Rosa Silk and Rosso Luxury.
